I want to share a few words to describe my 3 days and 2 nights inside Angola Penitentiary in Louisiana. What was the bloodiest & meanest prison in the United States has now become the Godliest prison in the United States. Warden Burl Cain, in 1995j brought in the first Bible college Seminary in a prison in the USA. The change in inmates lives, guards and wardens has been nothing short of miracle after miracle. Out of 5200 inmates only a few are serving less than 50 years to life so most will die in that prison. There were so many things God ministered to my heart, it is difficult to narrow this to just a few things. I guess because you never could have convinced me years ago when I found my father murdered that I would be ministering to murderers, The Fathers Blessing." Yet as I went from cell to cell on "Death Row" I asked them if they knew or had ever had a "fathers blessing. You know the answer. One man asked me after I blessed him, to pray for him everyday until he goes to the death chamber, because after that day, i would not need to pray for him anymore. I have a cross he made, around my neck, to remind me.
After Warden Cain began to see God change these mens hearts by the hundreds, his greatest burden was in asking God, "How to you teach a killer compassion?" So God showed him the place that requires compassion and mercy, which most of these killers showed absolutely no compassion or mercy during their violent acts. Hospice. Yes, when Burl Cain started a Hospice for those with terminal diseases and in their last months, weeks and days of their lives. He brought those incarcerated for life to take care of these patients. Yes, to feed them, bathe them, change their diapers. And through these moments and acts of compassion and mercy, God changed their hearts as they did their duties on hospice for months at a time and then asked if they wanted to be re-assigned. Unanimously they re-committed. The 3 killers we talked to had been there 3,7 & 12 years serving the terminally ill. Only God can change a mans heart.
I will share more later but want you to know that God is doing something in mens lives in prisons all across the USA. I have been with Grover Norwood, Heart of Texas Foundation as he is heading an endeavor to have the first Bible college seminary in a Texas prison. ( Angola Louisiana Penitentiary was the first and only so far in USA) The first Seminary will begin next August, 2011 at the Darrington prison south of Houston and will be an extension campus of Southwest Theological Seminary, Ft Worth, TX. I have been privileged to set in on the planning meetings so far and not quite sure what God is up to but definitely know that somehow God is going to provide for the Majoring in Men Curriculum by Edwin Louis Cole to be available to all men in 113 prisons in Texas. We already have it many prisons in several states right now and have commissioned 76 inmate men in Arizona prisons. God is using Mike & Dawn Kludt of Anointed Through Faith(ATF) ministries to physically hand the Curriculum to over 700 incarcerated men. Some of those men are now teaching it at the Dream Center in Phoenix. Praise the Lord. There are so many G0d has placed in different states to take the Curriculum to these men, Gary Mayhew, in Michigan and Albert Feliciano in NY, just to name a few.
You can be a part of helping us saturate prisons with the word of God. It is the word that does the work and changes mens hearts. Dr. Cole taught us, "Let the word do the work."
For $175 you can sponsor a complete set of Majoring in Men Curriculum, including my two books , Murder For Hire, in English and Spanish and my new curriculum workbook for The Unnatural Act of Forgiveness.
Please pray about what God would have you do during this special holiday season. Not only do we have so much to be thankful for but lots to celebrate as we enter that special time of our Saviors birth.
You can be a part of changing a mans heart from no mercy and no compassion to one who is full of mercy and compassion as Christ has shown for us.
God bless you as we labor in the fields together for men's souls,
